Trained as an architect, I have always been fascinated by grids, patterns, and geometric forms. Coming from France, one of the first things that struck me upon arriving in Tokyo was the road markings—abundant, sharp, colourful graphic elements that transform the streets into an abstract canvas for human movement.
I discovered this crossing beside a typical Japanese retaining wall. Although both the road and the wall were brand new, the traces of water flowing through the drainage holes added an unexpected depth to the pattern. As a typical salaryman approached, I ran into position, stopped, and pressed the shutter. I remember shaking immediately afterward, knowing I had captured something special.
