Biography
Michiel van Mens has been active in street photography for more than thirty years. Guided by the belief that great photographers learn from the masters, he undertook a two-year study of hundreds of monographs by renowned street photographers, seeking to understand what defines a distinctive photographic vision.
His research proposes that a photographer’s visual signature can be understood through six stylistic characteristics. This work resulted in the book The Photographic Signature of the Street Photographer in Six Stylistic Characteristics and several articles published internationally.
